Friday night traditions

The Mr. and I used to always go out on Friday nights. We usually had dinner out and then met up with friends for drinks. Often, we didn’t get home until close to 1 or 2am… sometimes later. Sleeping in the next morning meant we lost about half a Saturday. And then we just sort of dragged through the rest of the day.

I still like a crazier night from time to time, but I suppose I am getting a little older, wiser, and …. lazier? For whatever reason, we sometimes like to just stay home on Friday night. Last week we stayed in and made pizza. We haven’t bought take-out pizza in several months because the Mr. has gotten so good at making it himself. We pick up a ball of dough for $2 from a place called Hot Lips. We could spend the time making the dough, but for $2 this dough is absolutely incredible and worth it. Check out this pizza:

Mmmmmmmm. Doesn’t it look pro? We had leftover chicken and cilantro from the week, so we made BBQ chicken pizza. Instead of pizza sauce we used BBQ sauce. Then we piled on mozzarella and cheddar cheese, chicken, and cilantro.

We also enjoyed a couple of beers. I gravitate to Belgian-style beers and my husband always goes for a hoppy IPA.

We chowed down while watching A Serious Man. Have you seen it? It was pretty good and gave us something to talk about since it was a somewhat unusual movie with an open-ended plot.

    I love little traditions like that! Michael grew up with Friday night as pizza night too, so we try to capture that occasionally though it’s not always every week. Love that you made a homemade BBQ pizza–looks delish!

  2. Thanks for the tip about getting dough from Hot Lips. I love their pizza, but didn’t know you could buy dough from them.

    Has the Mr. tried Samuel Adams’ Noble Pils limited spring offering? It’s a macro brew and all, but if he hasn’t you should pick up a six-pack to surprise him.

      When we were New Englanders, Sam Adams was our go-to beer. We’ll have to give this one a try, if we can find it locally. Thanks for the tip!
